Liftlore (Folklore) is an exhibition which satirically explores the folklore allegories surrounding one of the world’s most famous prehistoric sites, Stonehenge. Liftlore playfully re-tells the mythical legends of Merlin and the giants, following the timeline of Stonehenge creation, with tongue in cheek reflections on current day gym-lore (fitness culture). Reflecting on one of the biggest power lifts of the millennia, a fairytale narrative of Merlin’s gym and his band of merry giants is explored through animation, sculptural forms and, wall works storyboarding the tale of this forgotten truth. Powered by the magic of a strong pre-workout potion, the works aim to navigate the modern day anxieties associated with achieving greatness and, colloquial customs of gym culture. This project has been supported by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.
